Is Matcha Better Than Coffee?

We’re firm believers in the health properties and benefits that matcha tea can provide to its consumers. It’s part of the reason we were one of the first to bring matcha tea to the United States and Canada in 2006, and why we’re so passionate about producing a high-quality product.

Matcha tea is a finely ground powder of specially grown green tea leaves. Because of its fine grind, the health properties associated with a regular brewed cup of green tea are increased with matcha.

Our ZenMatcha powder is some of the highest-quality matcha available because we grind our tea leaves finer than most. This makes our matcha powder more easily digested and assimilated into the body. And, as a bonus, we specify an extremely fine grind that leaves little or no residue (aka “sludge”) at the bottom of your cup. You get to drink ALL the ZenMatcha that you put in your cup.

So, why do we believe that matcha tea is healthier than coffee? Here are just a few of our reasons:

Matcha has a unique form of caffeine

Over-caffeinated jitters are no longer an issue with a cup of matcha to start the day. Various medical studies and research have shown that green tea contains theophylline, a unique and natural form of caffeine that releases slowly over an 8-10 hour period. The natural production of this unique form of caffeine in matcha tea means you can drink less and have more sustained energy over a longer period of time.

Green tea also exclusively contains L-Theanine, an amino acid that increases mental awareness and is shown to produce a relaxing and calming effect in the brain. With the strength and potency of matcha, these natural green tea benefits are heightened to its drinkers.

One cup of matcha is full of antioxidants and chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is found in all plants and is what gives them their green color. It’s also one of the most potent natural blood detoxifiers. Green tea is loaded with chlorophyll, and matcha has an increased amount making its detoxifying properties even stronger. A brilliant green color matcha, such as ZenMatcha, is not only beautiful, it also means its a very high quality and full of chlorophyll.

Green tea is also packed with antioxidants, which are shown to have strong anti-aging effects. It also contains a particular type of antioxidant, catechins, which are proven to help fight disease. In a recent study, matcha was shown to be 137 times higher in catechins compared to regular green tea.

Matcha’s antibiotics and antivirals help prevent common ailments

Green tea is full of antibiotics and antivirals which help prevent and cure common sicknesses like a cold or the flu. Powerful anti-microbials also help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. With matcha’s increased potency, these green tea health properties are enhanced, making them more effective than regular brew green tea.

These are just a few of the reasons why we believe matcha tea is healthier than coffee, but if you don’t believe us, read this post from Emax Health.
